Eco friendly diapers are diapers that aim to minimise their impact on the environment through the materials used and/or the production processes applied. This includes reusable (cloth) diapers, but the term generally refers to disposable diapers that are sustainably made. At Kit and Kin, we create our eco diapers in a carbon neutral factory from sustainable and plant-derived materials. This includes the absorbent core of our nappy, which contains totally chlorine-free, wood pulp from sustainably managed forests. We are also the only nappy brand that protects our precious rainforest for the next generation. 🌳🙌

The vast majority of our diaper is made from biodegradable materials. A much higher proportion than other eco diapers and of course a complete improvement compared to diapers made from petrochemicals. There is currently no biodegradable alternative for the velcro tabs and the elastics in the leg cuffs, but we are always looking for new materials as they become available. Biodegradability depends very much on landfill conditions and access to oxygen but in the right conditions, our diapers will biodegrade much faster than plastic diapers. We are in conversations with local councils, working towards a recycling option for used diapers.

Our hypoallergenic diapers are made from majority plant-based and biodegradable materials, so in order for them to break down as quickly as possible we would recommend following these simple steps:

Ensure the used diaper is placed inside a biodegradable diaper sack which will allow for oxygen to permeate

When disposing of the sack in the bin, if possible place it outside of the non-biodegradable bin liner (but still within the bin itself) as this will maximise the exposure to oxygen
